Letter to Greggs to tackle single use plastic bags

After completing an eco-audit it was clear to see that single use plastic bags are a real problem for our school.  One of the main suppliers of these bags are Greggs the bakers so Year 4 wrote a shared letter to ask for change.

First item removed from usage in school

The children in Eco Club researched how we could be more environmentally friendly and they decided that glitter was too damaging to the environment to be used in school.  We have not replaced glitter with any other item, we have simply removed it from the classrooms.

As a school we are now looking for a way to dispose of the glitter in a safe way that will not cause harm to the environment.

    Glitter Ban Campaign

The children worked together to create a video to send to the Headteacher and art co-ordinator to persuade them to ban glitter from our school.  They came up with a range of reasons to support their campaign after researching it thoroughly using the internet.

    Audit

The file is a copy of our audit which was completed by the children on our Eco Committee

    Audit

The Eco-committee worked together to collect the information required to complete the audit.  They used the schools stationary order forms as well as conducted interviews with specific members of staff e.g. school business manager and school cook to gain the information.

The children were amazed to see the schools orders for stationary and the amount of money spent to resource the school.

    Classroom assemblies

Each class from Reception to Year 6 had an assembly delivered to them about plastic pollution,  impact on animals and the planet and how we are going to be a plastic clever school.

      Litter Pick

We completed a litter pick event within our school grounds on the morning of the 9th December.  The children ranged from Year 3 to Year 6.
