removing single use plastic water bottles

As our 3rd Act we have purchased 20 metal reusable bottles and will stop buying plastic single use bottles. we used some of our funding and the school covered the rest.

we will continue to work with our kitchen team to remove the next single use plastic item, this will either be yogurt pots and or butter tubs.

our learners will all be using the litter picking equipment for both beach cleaning and keeping our local area clean in our Outdoor Learning sessions.

A big well done to our Learners here at Highgate Hill House School and a huge thank you to your programme and sponsors for helping us inspire our students and achieve removing [plastics from our school and community.

Beach Clean

out learners were really excited to launch the inter school beach clean challenge, they inspired members of the public to get involved too.

Beach Clean

We had a fantastic beach clean to launch our inter house competition, the members of the public were asking us questions and joined in too, our learners felt very proud and our new equipment helped loads, we have shared the event on our schools facebook page and used it as one of our actions for the climate action countdown week too.

investigate action plan

we are so excited to make a positive action against plastic pollution in our school and also support plastic pollution in out community

investigate Audit

it was really interesting speaking with the kitchen staff and office staff to collect this data, the cook mentioned that one of her biggest single use plastics were butter tubs too.

film

We hope you enjoy our short film, we have used our school gardens.

Litter Pick

Widemouth Class at Highgate Hill House School, gathered 1 piece of litter they could find in our school grounds and we returned to discus what the litter was made of, where it came from, how long it takes for it to decompose and what harm it might be causing?

they were surprised to learn how long it takes for a wet wipe to fully decompose at around 2 to 5 years and a plastic bottle taking 250 years.

We discussed that we don’t have a lot of litter in our school grounds as we only have a very few students that bring in snacks from home, the other learners have fruit of homemade flap jacks from the canteen.
