Our Journey Video
- Posted on: October 6, 2022
We celebrated our journey as a Kids Against Plastic School at a whole school assembly. We collated some of the slides and evidence of our journey into a video.
Water stations
- Posted on: September 11, 2022
Our school can get very hot and we had about 20 pupils per day accessing single use plastic cups from teachers or the school office.
We bought colourful reusable beakers and created a water station both in our lower stages floor and our upper stages floor. We wash the cups each night and get them ready for the next day again.
Since starting this in August, we have not used a single plastic use cup! We will continue to have our water stations as a permanent feature and are delighted by the changes we have made.
Campaign to target single use plastic water bottles and cups
- Posted on: September 11, 2022
We had a big problem of pupils using single use plastic water bottles and especially cups. We started a campaign to eliminate this by sharing posters and messages in assembly. We communicated the message to our families. Pupils wrote to 25 local companies to ask for support. We formed a business link with a company called Technip. They visited our school on Friday. They presented a whole school assembly to share the work they do to help with single use plastics and gave us some ideas. They provided our school with 120 reusable water bottles for distributing to pupils who do not have reusable bottles. We plan to work with this business for future litter picks and environmental projects.
Braehead School: Action Plan
- Posted on: August 1, 2022
Braehead School created an action plan to target problem single use plastics in our school.
These include creating ‘Water Stations’, organising a bank of reusable water bottles for pupils with family circumstances and organsing a litter picking rota involving all classes.
Audit
- Posted on: June 10, 2022
Pupils conducted surveys around the school to find out the percentage of pupils who had a packed lunch.
Pupils undertook studies of the dining hall, staff room and nursery. They collected and organised single plastic waste to find out what was being thrown away and how much of it.
We discovered that a large majority of pupils were forgetting a water bottle and taking a plastic cup to use at the water fountain.

This is our Kids Against Plastic Wall Display that we have shared with our school on our Facebook Page and it is in our school dining hall so all pupils can engage with it. We shared our video on Facebook and also at assembly.
