Our journey to being plastic clever
- Posted on: February 29, 2024
We have had lots of discussions and done extensive research into the damage one use plastic does to the environment as well as the impact it has on nature. We made a pledge to encourage everyone at Lightmoor Primary school to make small changes to have a big impact on the planet: picking up litter, recycling, opting for reusable products instead of throw away ones, being mindful of wasting products that have plastic casings.
Our efforts have been rewarding as we have seen a drop in the amount of items in the plastic recycling boxes in each classroom.
Everyone at Lightmoor Primary School are aware of our Eco crew and their visions through assembly presentations and the information on our Eco board.
Pens & Glue
- Posted on: February 29, 2024
Eco club created posters to remind everyone of the importance of recycling. Special attention was paid to using pens sensibly in order to prolong their life, as well as using ALL the glue in glue sticks before putting into recycling box.
Recycled recycling boxes
- Posted on: February 29, 2024
We have placed recycling boxes in every classroom- all clearly labelled with what should go in them. We used old boxes from the store cupboard as well as printer paper boxes, decorated by eco club. There are separate boxes for: paper/card, plastic, batteries, pens and glue sticks.
Recycling from each class is taken daily to the school main recycling area. Pens are taken weekly to Ryman pen recycling box by Eco club members and batteries are recycled at local recycling plant.
Lightmoor Action Plans
- Posted on: February 2, 2024
Eco club analysed the results of the audit that we completed last week and decided to work on action plans for glue sticks, black and blue pens and whiteboard pens.
Some students worked on a joint email to the head teacher and other students met with teachers to ask them to remind students to put the lids on pens when not being used and to ensure all of the glue is used before putting the plastic stick in the recycling bin.
plastic audit
- Posted on: January 25, 2024
We did an audit at the end of the day of each classes plastic recycling bin.
We counted out and listed the contents and found that plastic pens were the main problem, with whiteboard pens and glue sticks second.
Why Lightmoor want to be a Plastic Clever School
- Posted on: November 7, 2023
Lightmoor Primary School Eco club researched the effects of one use plastic on our environment. We then recorded a video to show others about why we want to become a Plastic Clever School and how everyone can make small changes to make a difference.
Plastic free school assembly
- Posted on: October 24, 2023
We held a whole school assembly to highlight the plight of Eco club and our desire to look after the planet. We highlighted the damage that plastic causes to not just the environment but also to wildlife on land and the oceans. We delivered our pledge to become a plastic free school by encouraging everyone (staff and students) to have a reusable water bottle and say no to one use plastic.
Lightmoor Eco Club Litter Pick
- Posted on: October 11, 2023
With our plastic free litter bag and gloves donated from surfers against sewage, Lightmoor Eco Club did a local litter pick. We found numerous plastic drink bottles as well as cans, food packaging, crisp and sweet packets and plastic carrier bags.
Using our recycling point in school, we disposed of the litter appropriately.
