On Monday, October 6, 2025, our school had the honor of hosting the key partners of the "Amorgorama" initiative.
In attendance were:
- Michalis Krosman, President of the Professional Fishermen's Association of Amorgos "Η ΧΟΖΟΒΙΩΤΙΣΣΑ"
- Anny Mitropoulou, Executive Director of Cyclades Preservation Fund (CPF)
- Angela Lazou Dean, Head of Marine Programs in Greece for Blue Marine Foundation
- Stefanos Kalogirou, Assistant Professor at the Agricultural University of Athens
This event marked the beginning of an ongoing collaboration aimed at raising our students' awareness about "Amorgorama" - a project dedicated to protecting Amorgos' marine ecosystems and promoting sustainable management of marine resources.
The presence of the scientific team, combined with the particularly valuable participation of the local fishermen's association, immediately became a source of inspiration for our students. The motivating factor? The fishermen's innovative proposal for a pilot program of alternative employment during April and May - a critical period for fish reproduction. During these two months, the fishermen plan to dedicate their boats to cleaning the northern beaches of the island from plastics and debris.
This act of solidarity isn't just an idea: in recent years, this initiative has already been taking place on our island. This year, our school aims to actively participate in this important environmental effort, turning theory into action and strengthening hope for a cleaner environment.
