Our plastic audit showed us that plastic food packaging, pens/felt tips/markers, and laminating were the main plastic waste culprits.
So we created this action plan to try to tackle the problem.
We looked for an alternative to plastic whiteboard markers and felt tips, but there aren't any. There is also no way to recycle them, so there's not much we can do, sadly, other than encourage the careful and limited use of them and ask the Head to consider crayons over felt tips.
We are also going to get the message out to parents and kids to consider plastic-free foods for pack-ups and to introduce plastic recycling bins in the dinner hall.
Finally, we are going to put signs up by the laminators in the school to ask the user to consider if they REALLY need to laminate or if plain paper or card, or mounting the paper, or using waterproof paper would be better.
Not plastic, but we are also going to introduce paper recycling bins by the photocopiers!
