International day of action ” Plastic Clever Schools” 15/11/2024

On Friday 11/15/2024, the Vocational Training Center "Margarita" participated with approximately 15 students (people with intellectual disabilities) and 2 instructors in the plastic clever schools action day.
After we logged in and watched the first video, we had a little discussion around single-use and reusable plastics. We found plastics that we always carry with us and plastics in the surrounding area that are thrown in the trash.
So we spilled into the school grounds and collected the discarded plastics in a big black bag. These mainly involved bags, films, plastic water or soft drinks bottles and caps.
We also threw away several pieces of burnt plastic from our school's automatic watering system, as a result of the big fire in Penteli last August.

We should point out that at our school we have been separating the garbage into recycling, composting and common garbage for years, therefore the plastics we found in the area were probably carried away by the wind.
We found, however, that small mistakes are made when separating the garbage (we found plastic objects in the garbage, even in the organic remains of the composter).
At 11.00 we watched the video about plastics in the seas, where we also wathced some additional videos about the capture of aquatic animals in plastic bags and nets.
After we didn't manage to watch the live video and ask questions, we moved on to the video that prompted us to do some plastic art. We decided to make a "garbage meter", which we filled with the plastics we collected in the forecourts.
We should point out that the garbage meter was filled with half of the plastics we collected. We threw the rest into the blue curbside recycling bin.

Closing the day's activity, we entered Excel and filled in the numbers about plastic trash and bins at our school.
