We hosted a litter pick for the pupils and local community. It was organised by our Eco Council. It was lead by Rubbish Walk (a local social enterprise). We collected approximately 4,000 pieces of litter, with most of them being small pieces of plastic. We hosted a litter pick last year and collected over 5,000 pieces of litter. We were pleased to find there was less litter in the local area. On the last litter pick, we found a crisp packet dated 2003. This year, everything was dated 2023, showing that we have cleared the area of old litter.
We logged our litter pick on the KAP map/app and it is named 'Heath Primary School'.
As part of the event, we also had a Build Your Own Boat workshop. This was led by Rubbish Walks. Children used their litter to make a boat, which they could sail at a local event on the following day if they wished. This encouraged the children to repurpose and reuse plastic.
