THE CRUSARES GET INFORMED

At the 2nd Primary School of Vasiliko, Greece, students from the 2nd and 3rd grade (ages 7–9) actively participated in an educational project focused on the issue of microplastics and the broader environmental impact of plastic pollution in our oceans.

As part of the project, children were first introduced to the topic through age-appropriate educational activities led by their teachers. The aim was to help them understand key concepts such as the plastic life cycle, how microplastics are formed, and their harmful effects on marine life and ecosystems.

Through discussions, visual materials, and storytelling, the students became aware of the journey of plastics—from production and use to disposal and pollution. This helped build empathy and a sense of responsibility towards protecting the marine environment.

Following this, the children expressed their understanding and creativity in various ways:

  • They designed their own environmental logos, reflecting their thoughts and hopes for a cleaner ocean and a future with less plastic waste.

  • They collaborated to compose a poem, aimed at raising awareness among their peers and the broader community about the dangers of microplastics and the need for immediate action.

  • They engaged in planning collective action, preparing posters and pledges, and getting ready to participate in local environmental initiatives such as beach cleanups and plastic-free school campaigns.

This project not only educated the children on a critical environmental issue but also empowered them to become young advocates for change, using art and words to inspire their community.

We are proud of our students’ enthusiasm, creativity, and growing sense of environmental stewardship. Their voices matter—and we are committed to continuing this journey toward a more sustainable and plastic-free future.
